All It Took Was Replacing 2 Parts With Easier To Install Ones
Swapping out the analog camera system and old FrSky receiver on one of my oldest drones with a Walksnail Avatar HD FPV system and a Radiomaster RP4TD was so much easier than I was anticipating. It turns out that when you do an upgrade like that, you’re actually removing a big mess of wires and replacing it with a nice clean new setup that’s less convoluted.
Is It Even Worth Upgrading A 10 Year Old Drone?
I guess the big question you have to ask yourself when you’re about to throw $200 or so at an old drone is “Is this gonna be worth it”, and the answer is going to come down to the individual. In my case I was able to upgrade that old drone that flies amazingly well and now it has all the new great features that you would hope to find in a new drone and it’s in a frame that you couldn’t hope to find these days. BTW Shout Out to Detroit MultiRotor for making a frame that stands the test of time while suffering so many violent crashes. Anyway, I feel like I saved a lot of money compared to building or buying a whole new drone and it keeps that old thing from just sitting around collecting dust. I actually think I’m gonna put a new flight stack and motors on it and use the old stuff from it in an old frame I have that needs all those parts. This way my son can have his first 5″ quadcopter and we can rule the sky together.
